Biography of Sophia Webster
As a teenager, Sophia Webster was a competitive disco-dancer before going on to study art and sculpture at Camberwell College of Arts in London. Realizing she wanted to create shoes, Webster went on to Cordwainers’ College at the London College of Fashion.
she had a pretty impressive career in fashion before she even graduated from the Royal College of Art; her final student collection was picked up by Browns. After school she worked with Nicholas Kirkwood for two years as his first-ever assistant. He offered to mentor her for those two years, with the promise that he would help her launch her first collection. This is the result. She’s already been picked up by Bergdorf, Net-a-Porter, Neiman, Saks, Harvey Nichols, and Colette, to name a few.
Sophia Webster has an impressive footwear pedigree. Not one to follow trends, she prefers to dream up playful, candy-coloured designs festooned with girlish details – polka dots, baubles and bows – which have won her favour with fashion editors and celebs alike (Rihanna is a huge fan).
The new season collection has taken the brand’s DNA and run with it – the Felice shoe boots, in baby blue leather and polka mesh detail, hold a vintage pin-up charm, while the Mollie sandals feature a cutesie micro beaded stiletto heel. The ultimate dress-up shoes, they’re serious fun to wear.
