Pierre Balmain is a French designer originally from Savoy. At first intending to work in architecture, according to the wishes of his mother, he finally opted for the world of fashion. He began by working for fashion designers of the time, like Molyneux. But World War II broke out, and Pierre Balmain was forced to give up his job. Back in his region in 1940, he was offered the artistic direction of Lelong collections, a position he accepted with enthusiasm.
He then created his fashion house in 1945, he called naturally “Pierre Balmain”, and had for assistant Karl Lagerfeld. His designs, stylish, modern and chic, sublimating women, seduce the public but also stars such as Brigitte Bardot, and crowned heads. The popularity of Pierre Balmain exploded, surrounding himself with nearly 600 employees. He died in 1982 after a long illness.
