Jimmy Choo Biography
Jimmy Choo was born in Malaysia in the city of Penang in 1961.
From birth, it seems to be destined to a fate not quite like the others. Born Jimmy Chow, it owes its name to a famous misspelling of the officer in charge of the town hall to register his birth.
Born into a family of shoemakers he made his first shoes at the age of 11 years.
In 1983 he graduated from Cordwainers’ Technical College in London. To pay for his studies he often worked in shoe factories.
3 years later in 1986, he opened his first shop in London in Hackney.Soon his creations and especially the high quality production of its models are noticed. They became known in 1988 when some of its models appear in Vogue magazine.
Since 1990 it is under the patronage of a good fairy royal excited about her shoes: Princess Diana.
But it is a meeting in 1996 that will really change your life. A young fashion editor of French Vogue, Tamara Mellon, wanted to find luxury accessories that match their level of personal requirement offered to join him to found the Jimmy Choo brand.
They opened their first shop in the neighborhood of London Motcomb Street and recruits a young designer graduated from Saint Martin’s School of Designs Sandra Choi named.
Tamara and Sandra will start drawing styles of shoes luxury, glamor and fantasy, which Jimmy Choo carries with increasing precision requirement and attention to detail.
Soon all British and Hollywood stars swear by Jimmy Choo.
The success was such that in 2001 Jimmy Choo Luxury merges with Equinox, an English holding. Jimmy Choo himself withdrew from the manufacture of shoes and focuses its work on a new series of the brand, a line of bags.
As a reward for his work and his talent, Jimmy Choo was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II.
